Digital Duckie and Butterfly

Duckie duckie duckie duckie!!!

I had fun doing this assignment, and finished like 4 classes before the rest of the class. It's having the tutorial guide, I like having a written reference for how to do things in any given program, it makes me feel efficient and intelligent because I CAN READ GUD.

No seriously, I can. 750 on the Reading Comprehension section of the SAT when I was a stupid seventeen year old, so imagine how much smarter and intuitive I've become since then!

So, the last few classes I have admittedly been screwing around, thinking about what to do for my free-create aspect of this assignment. We need to make an animal under our own steam and instruction using the tools we used for the rubber duck. I first tried to do a cat, but that was an unmitigated disaster. I don't really have the time and patience for such fine point control.

So I did a butterfly! Yaaaay Symmetry and easy-to-identify-and-divide-into-root-shapes animals!

I'm messing with the flamingo textures, I have gold and translucent plastics for my build parts right now.

I need to make arms, insect pinchers and insect arms. rawr.

MAJESTY

ISN'T THIS THE MOST MAJESTIC THING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN?

I DID THAT.

I AM AWESOME.

FINALLY! (A NYC Field trip post)

DEPARTURE TIME (Towson, MD): 6:30 AM
ARRIVAL TIME (Manhattan, NY): 9:30 AM
DEPARTURE TIME (Manhattan, NY): 6:30 PM
ARRIVAL TIME (Towson, MD): 10PM

Destination/Activities
  1. MoMa: 10:30AM - 1:30PM
  2. Greene St galleries: 2PM-3:30PM
  3. EXPLORING: 3:30PM-6PM

PICTURES AND CONTEXT:
(MoMA) Super porny man of WIN; It reminded me simultaneously of friends of ill repute, ex-boyfriends and The Village People.

(MoMA) MORE PORN ISN'T IT LOVELY. (AIDS four-square, unprotected sex as russian roulette)

My pictures for the feminist art and kitchen design turned out like shit, but seriously there were Guerrilla Girls posters up and history of design for the modern kitchen. You'd think being a feminist and having an avid obsession for homemaking design/engineering would be two very opposing points of my psyche but goddamnit cooking is super sciencey and full of chemistry and it's like MAGIC, DAMNIT. (I totally just made myself sound stupid, I realize.) Also, I love me Guerilla Girls something hardcore. HEART HEART HEART.

(EXPLORING) ((I was not very interested in the galleries/they didn't allow pictures))

I love street art.

(EXPLORING) OMG PUPPET FROM DARK CRYSTAL. I found the ANIMAZING gallery wandering on my own like a bad bad little girl and apparently you're not allowed to take pictures in there; something I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to do until I went back upstairs. They didn't realize I was in the gallery and let me unattended in the basement. I was totally in awe that I didn't care and started taking pictures of all the awesome. When I went back upstairs to do the same, I saw the very discreet no-photography sign and quickly shoved my camera back in my bag and felt a little stupid.

Still kept the pictures that turned out okay though.

(Exploring) Main room of the basement portion of the ANIMAZING gallery. THOSE ARE OIL PAINTINGS OMG DIEEESSS.

(Exploring) A corner of an off-room of the ANIMAZING gallery. I love fantasy paintings so much.

(Exploring) STREET ART YAAAY.

There were so many middle aged men in hot pink/bright red/neon orange pants in NYC. It was confusing. I was perturbed. I creeped this picture to share this bizarreness with the world.

THINGS NOT SHOWN:
-KidRobot store (super cool)
- A really cool store called EVOLUTION that I got some teeny fossils from and a carved jade ring.
-Sitting outside a playground my mom probably took me to when I was itsy bitsy.
-Chilling outside the NYU gymnasium taking in the feel of the city.
-Going to a kebab place my mom went to when she was pregnant with me.

I'm futzing with this in ART360. Not entirely sure what it means yet, I'm just playing around and listening to a little voice telling me what to do.

I'm sure that makes me sound crazy, but that's what it is. A teeny little whisper next to my right ear, telling me to do this to Angelina Jolie's face. Or write a song. Or doodle.

Yea, I don't understand it at all.

Sketchy

I'm not an "art major" anymore. Yes I am in two art classes right now, and I still look and act like a hippy-dippy art kid who hates propriety and conventionalism. But that's an unavoidable part of my personality because I kind of hate having people telling me what to do. Individualism, hooah!

But despite my outwards appearances, I am a pre-nursing major and I'm working towards becoming an officer in the Army. There is now absolutely zero pressure on my brain to make the next big amazing art thing. And because of that lack of pressure, I'm doing what led me to pursue art in the first place. I'm doodling all over my notes. Really intricate, playful doodles that if I really wanted to, would look completely badass in illustrator or even Rhino. I thought that part of my imagination died a long time ago, and it is comforting to see that again.

I suppose I was never made to pump out work. Ideas always had to come to me and before I decided to make a career out of it, I never worried so much about going a while without drawing. One day a massive wave of inspiration would hit me and I'll be drawing for days. It always worked that way. And in between, I would write.

That's another thing. I'm writing prose and poems again. That's completely bizarre, I haven't written a single couplet since I was seventeen, and here I am actually word-crafting again. I'm letting words flow and letting my creative juices just happen naturally and flowing where they want to go and it's amazing and terrifying and kind of sad.

I do love my art, and I do love creating, and I'd love to learn other skills still. I want to learn glassblowing, and more jewelry making. It's so much fun! But I feel kind of like less of a creative person because I can't pump out piece after piece after piece and have them be consistently meaningful and me. I realize now I never worked that way.

Now I'm tapping into another crucial part of my personality; my bossy, maternal side; and I'm going to be a nurse and work hard to make a difference in other people's lives. And drawing and writing whenever it comes to me.

I like this new me that's unfolding. I like how comfortable in my skin I am again. I kind of wish I could pump out work after work, but I guess some of us just can't be that way.

Progress Update

I got my stuff done! I'm not failing! I did my work and it was completed and PT still hasn't killed me.

I still kind of feel like I'm careening towards a mental breakdown. I am surrounded my complete strangers 90% of my day and the remaining ten I'm mostly in the company of my charming, darling, retardedly intense parents. I'm not a shy person, but I do prefer to be around people I know and trust who aren't as crazy-intense as I am. Which strikes out my classmates and my parents. I really, really miss my best friends. I don't see enough of them.

But work. Right.

Next projects: Photomanips and I really don't know for 361, as a class we're really behind.

I'm doing something to do with the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire for the photo manipulation.

I'm kind excited/kind anxious about the field trip Saturday. No one I know is going, and if family knows I'm in town...If I think my parents are intense, they're serene xanax poppers compared to their parents and siblings.

I need a bit more quiet time in my life. I do not have enough.

I am in so much trouble

I've been holding my tongue, but today is pretty much rubbing up close to my breaking point. I've got several things due in the next couple days, but because of ROTC and PT training, I've yet to hit my stride with figuring out when and how I'm doing my work.

I've been abstaining from caffeine as it exasperates dehydration, but I think I will have to fall into the sweet, sweet arms of diet red bull.

I've got a presentation due Friday in Bio190 - haven't even started typing up my part, let alone assemblage. Art360 has a poster due next Wednesday (still cobbling), and Art361 has a landscape due this coming Tuesday that I haven't even started.

What have I been doing? Sleeping. A lot of sleeping. And trying not to lose my mind. I just quit my part time job so my weekends free up, so this weekend I'm going to be busting my ass on my poster and landscape project.

I'm royally ruined.

Some stuff that I've done

The image below is part of a triptych. This section is mostly done, aside from more fiddling with the shading and figuring out her setting more. I haven't started the other parts yet.
I think it's super cute so far.

The image above is a panel from an incomplete comic I was doing for an assignment, ran out of time and realized that this one panel fulfilled the requirements.

This is a pretty good idea of what my digital art typically looks like when I have fun and do it under my own steam.

Classes I'm using this blog for

Art360.101 and Art361.001

I'm being bad by going over this information during a review of illustrator, and while I don't feel like I'm mastered it, I still know enough about all the tools to get my stuff done on time.

I totally recognize that this is necessary for other students, but this remedialism x my constant hunger from ROTC training x exhaustion because I've been up since 4AM with one 1hr nap at like 9AM = ZERO ATTENTION SPAN

I'm going to see if I have enough money for a bag of chips. *dies*

Hello World

Go team art blog! I decided not to use GIAGD or Joy Jewelry because both of those have very specific purposes and my minor OCD would feel weird posting digital and object design work that has nothing to do with politics or metal working.

TO BE CONTINUED...
